The annual Dragon Boat race in the Paddington Basin was held on 15th July 2010 with 10 teams fiercely competing to be called Dragon Champion! Companies that have offices in Paddington enter a team and working with the Westminster Volunteer Centre look to raise money for local charities, VISA Europe chose The London Pioneers and managed to raise over £1000 pounds for the club - Fantastic job! Needless to say it was a great evening of racing - unfortunately the two VISA boats didn't perform as well as we had hoped, but all the Pioneer players and supporters who showed up to shout for the teams still had a great time. Thanks VISA!
Please check the Practice scehdule some have already finished for the summer and others have their last one this week
If you are interested in trying out for a Pioneer team you should come to these scrimmages. There is always a Pioneer Coach present

On Thursday 22nd July, five London Pioneer players travelled to New York City and took the A Train to Harlem's Rucker Park on 155th Street. Rucker Park is undoubtedly the Cathedral of Street Basketball and the Pioneers wanted to match up against whatever Harlem ball players would throw at them! The game is five on five; first to 21 - a basket, no matter from where you score, is worth one point. It was a very competitive game, played in 90 deg high humid heat. At the half way point the score was 10-10, and while the Pioneers didn't have the show-boat style of the locals, they definitely were matching them, and at times exceeding, on substance. For game battled on with each team trading point for point, and with the score at 20-20, the Pioneers had more than once a chance to claim their victory - unfortunately the Harlem 5 claimed it first and ended up winners 21-20. But all Pioneers agreed it was a great day out!

The Pioneers started their women's program last year with an U16's team that played in the local London league. This year the Pioneers, in addition to the U16 local league team, will also have a U16 National League team that will play in the South Division. The team will be coached by the very experienced Michelle Brown. Coach Michelle will be holding tryouts for all prospective players on the following dates:
Monday 2nd Aug- Fri 7th
Monday 9th Aug- Fri 13th
The tryout will be over two weeks and coach will be working with players throughout the first week to hopefully end up with a squad of 16-18 players. So get out there and start practicing!
