After sitting out last season with a serious medical condition, former London Pioneer, Jesse Chuku, has returned to the court this year at Kimball Union Academy in New Hampshire, USA. Jesse is one of the captains of the team which has had a strong start to the season, 5-1. Jesse recently committed to Lehigh University to play basketball. Make sure you watch a recent highlight video, Jesse is No 21 in the video. Of course he's No. 40 in the picture at the top of this article!

Game number 49 of the season was last tuesday, where the U18 team were drafted in to play the City Stags in the London Men's Met League. The pre-game didn't quite go to plan as 8 of the team called to say that they couldn't make it, this left 4 of the team, 2 coaches and a member of the Men's team heading to the venue, on top of all that Coach Dodi forgot the kit! Fortunately, one of the referee's had a spare set in their car - incredibly it was clean as well and against the odds the game started - and what a game! Coach Shahar was leading scorer as the Pioneers won the game 76-61 in a combination of wise experience and young exuberance.
A few on court bust-ups as the Stags seem to take great exception to the art of the intentional foul - but all who played said it was a great night of basketball, mind you the referees didn't have an easy time and after receiving their game fee one said "Thats the last time I do that for a Buck!". Those City Stags....

After the end of year break the Pioneer season tipped with their first game of 2012 on 07 Jan. Incredibly it was the Pioneer Vs Pioneer game in the U14 National League. The Pioneers north team had won the first game back in September and the south were looking to prevent a repeat! The South had their way this time round and ended with a 65-35 victory.
The Men have managed to maintain a perfect record for 2012 with two victories. Their record for the season is 8-4 and are currently second in the table, but its close up there with plenty of tough games ahead. The top 4 teams make it through to the play-offs
Last Saturday saw the People's CVL in action with 5 games being played down at Stockwell Park High School (we are still awaiting results)
Happy New Year to all Pioneer Supporters!

What a great place London is! And what a great place London is if you love basketball. This half-term (11-18 Feb) There are a mountain of free, yes FREE basketball courses being held at Capital City Academy and at St Angela's. So if you have wanted to become a Table Official, Referee or a coach this is your opportunity, in fact you would be crazy to miss it.
The best part about this is that once you have completed and passed the course(s) of your choice you then have a great opportunity to give back and volunteer your newly acquired services to help officiate games of basketball in London - its one of those win-win situations. Spaces are limited so place make sure you register as soon as possible. All information can be found on the London Region Website
