2010 - 2011 College Tournament

photos What started out with some disappointment turned into something excellent. 12 teams were registered to show and play however 4 were unable to make it and a fifth arriving late made things start out blue, nonetheless fans were happy to see some outstanding basketball played with mouth opening dunks and fluent plays executed to brilliant defence on those basketball courts.

The tournament took place at ASL (American School in London) on the 16th of April 2011. Matches began at 10:30 AM.

This tournament was a real eye opener, with lots of hidden talent and potential being shown on those courts. I think it's safe to say for most basketball coaches that it was inspiring to see such great skills and hard work from the players, keep up the phenomenal work guys!

P.A (Paddington Academy) which was mostly Westminster Warriors took the gold at the end of the day and their number 11 took the MVP trophy also without losing a single game throughout. A great and dear congratulations to them for showing us all great effort, sportsmanship, persistence and most of all hard work. St. Charles took the silver spot after playing an extravagant number of games back to back VS every team in the tournament. Despite their champion position for 2 years in a row, looks like this wasn't their year even though they battled it out VS Paddington Academy on that last game. They can definitely keep their chins held up high for such endurance and thirst for that first place.

We mustn't forget this was the first year the tournament was open to all ÒLondon Youth GamesÓ and W.Y.G (Westminster Youth Games) were the only team to take advantage and boy did they have a huge presence in this; they had a gruesome match of basketball VS P.A where we saw a lot of turn overs by each team due to brilliant defence on both ends of the court. Hands together for them as they showed great character, skill as they made it to the semi finals.

Yet another well constructed and eventful day for everyone who took part. Compact with great basketball the College Tournament was an exciting day for everyone. A sincere well done to everyone who took part, I can only hope to see the same faces next year and lots of new ones as well. Another absolute joy of a day organised by the London Pioneers who gave out plenty of T-shirts, had plenty of staff well organised and prompt for the tournament. See you all soon if not next year.
